Nashita Hazareesing has clinched world gold in the under-14 (+57 kg) Ju-Jitsu Fighting category at the Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) World Championship finals in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Making her World Cup debut, Hazareesing stood proudly atop the podium to secure her world title in an event held from August 1-9, which featured roughly 1,300 athletes from 40 nations. She was part of a five-athlete delegation fielded by the Mauritius Ju-Jitsu Federation.
Among the adult competitors, Kilan Veer Gougon reached the quarter-finals in the +94 kg Jiu-Jitsu Gi category, following his bronze medal victory at the Contact Ju-Jitsu World Championships held in May.
Three fellow Mauritians gained valuable international experience during their maiden World Championship appearances: Yuveena Kavya Hazareesing, Jade Emy Watterston-André, and Jeyhan Gerwin Parahoo.
The squad now turns its attention to the African Championships in Algeria in September, where Yuveena Kavya Hazareesing will defend her double African champion status, while Jade Emy Watterston-André returns to defend her African titles in Gi and No-Gi.
